7 Favorite Empires Songs: #7 - Homewrecked
-Why is this song a favorite? The emotional quality. It only takes one listen to get what the song’s about without understanding a single lyric (although that certainly makes it better).
-Did you like it at first? I did, but not as much as the other songs on the EP. But I cycled through all three on repeat constantly for days, and when I finally moved onto other songs, this one emerged the victor.
-What are three words you would use to describe this song? Wistful, regretting, heartbreaking
-Do you have any memories associated with this song? Nothing specific. It’s a little too recent for that.
-What is your favorite lyric? Your war is in your heart/You’re gonna find it out again
A couple months before the ep came out, someone mentioned that “emotional and not so typical” empires songs were coming. I waited patiently (well, I tried to be patient) and when this song finally showed up, it did not disappoint.
My favorite thing about Empires are the lyrics and the drums/rhythm. But this is an Empires antithesis. The rhythm is dragging with a softer touch and the lyrics are nearly meaningless. It says less but feels so much more. The combination of the words and music are overwhelmingly emotional.
i want to crawl inside this song and live there. it’s so, so atypical to what empires normally do and i just. love it.
